ESA Summer 2019 - Master Post
ESA Summer 2019 is ESA’s flagship speedrunning meetup. It will be held in the voluminous convention space of the Quality Hotel View, Malmö which we will be happy to call home for some time going forward. ESA Summer 2019 will be raising money for an as yet unannounced charitable cause.
This year at ESA up to 700 speedrunners will come together to celebrate their hobby, show off their runs to old friends and new, and socialise for a full week. It’s unlike any other festival experience - there’s no headline act, there’s no exclusive bars. Just people passionate about their games and their friends.

When
ESA Summer 2019 will be open to all attendees from Friday 19 July to Sunday July 28
The marathon stream will run from Saturday 20 July to Saturday 27 July
There will be setup days on Thursday 18 July and Friday 19 July, and Monday 29 July. Attendees are welcome to book their hotel over these days, or longer, and help out with the running of the marathon.
The marathon will be streamed, as usual, on our twitch tv channel twitch.tv/esamarathon
Game Submissions
The game selection crew is lead by Fatzke, assisted by Jinny and eTholon.
The timetable and details for game selection will be announced in the coming weeks.
Streams
It is extremely likely that Stream 2 will be making a return to ESA with arrangements to be confirmed. Please submit runs on this basis.
We will once again be using games declared as Setup Games on the first stream to absorb delays and will move these to the second stream if needed.
Speedgaming
In addition to ESA streams, race organisation SpeedGaming will be hosting an area at ESA Summer 19. Details of this will be announced at a later date.
Arcade
The arcade area will return and be reinforced this year with new music games and a wider selection of pinballs. e-Amusement cards to save high scores on Jubeat are available to pre-order with a ticket.
Volunteers
All attendees should buy tickets at full price. Those who later are informed they will be entitled to a reduced price ticket by virtue of their role will be refunded the amount due.
Volunteer recruitment will open after the release of the schedule.
Accommodation
Accommodation is in the hotel itself, and you can book single, twin, triple and quad rooms. The price list is attached below.
Solo rooms: 645SEK per person per night
Double rooms: 422SEK per person per night
Triple rooms: 348SEK per person per night
Quad rooms: 311SEK per person per night
These room rates all include daily housekeeping, a generous breakfast buffet and access to the gym and sauna area. Your booking is guaranteed by credit card but payable at the hotel. There is a total of 302 rooms available.
Booking of single and twin rooms is online via a special Quality Hotel View microsite. This page may no longer be available due to limited availability on some nights.
Booking is also available by emailing q.view@choice.se quoting booking code ESA2019. Enquiries about 3- and 4- person rooms must be made by email.
Overflow Hotel
Due to the Quality Hotel View being so busy, we have an overflow hotel option at the Best Western Malmo Arena Hotel 5 minutes walk from the ESA venue.
Solo rooms: 650SEK per person per night
Double rooms: 426SEK per person per night
Double with 1 roll in: 383SEK per person per night
Double with 2 roll ins: 337SEK per person per night

The Malmo Arena Hotel has a 16th floor sky-bar, a gym, a sauna and a hot tub. Covered car parking is available at 150SEK/day, but other local options are available.
Earliest check in date is 19-Jul-2019 and latest check out is 28-Jul-2019 in this hotel.
Mass Housing
As is now standard at ESA, there will be no mass housing available at ESA Summer. This decision has been taken after a good level of deliberation, and ultimately is to ensure the safety and comfort of all attendees. As everyone will be in the hotel together, it will be straightforward to return to your room and rest, shower, change, collect or drop off belongings. We consider that an uncontrolled sleeping hall is no longer appropriate for an event of this size.
Location
The event is situated wholly within the event space of the Quality Hotel View, Malmö. This is a conference hotel in the Hyllie neighbourhood of Malmö. Opposite the hotel is the Emporia Shopping Center one of the biggest in Scandinavia.

Trains to Malmo city centre: 24⁄7, every 10 minutes between 0600 and 0000 with limited overnight service
Trains to Copenhagen city centre and airport: 24⁄7, no less than every 20 minutes between 0600 and 0000 with limited overnight service

Travel
Hyllie Station, the first/last stop in Sweden, is attached to the hotel. Trains run directly to Copenhagen Airport and Denmark every 20 minutes (journey time to the airport 15 minutes), and to Malmö city centre every 10 minutes (journey time 10 minutes).
The closest international airport is Copenhagen (Kastrup) which is a 15 minute direct train ride from the hotel. ESA attendees should not use Malmö airport, which is much further by bus and requiring a change in Malmö city centre.
Those travelling from Germany can also look for DB Sparpreis Europa tickets to Copenhagen Central, buying the last leg to Hyllie separately on arrival in Copenhagen. These are usually available three months prior and get more expensive over time.
Parking is available through P Malmö and is priced by the city to discourage travel by car. There are long and short term rates, details are available on the Quality Hotel View website and if you email the front desk they will be able to confirm exact rates that can be added to your hotel room. Rates in the hotel owned underground parking are significantly higher than the rates in the multi-storey car park.
Ticket Price
The standard booking price is 900SEK including 6% sales tax. This is a slight increase on previous years, to absorb some of the impact of us being registered for sales tax.
An early bird promotion will be applied to bookings in the first week of sales
Late registration will be 1100SEK in the four weeks before the event
