ESA Winter 2019 - Tech Volunteering Recruitment

This post was written by Planks

Intro

It’s time to open the recruitment for tech this winter event. Tech’s responsibility is to run the stream that everyone at home watches.

Tech is divided into 5 or 6 teams, with a senior and a volunteer. These senior tech are trusted, returning volunteers who have taken on the extra responsibility of being leaders.

Structure of tech this year

The confirmed senior team for ESA Winter is Gaël, Linkboss, and Popeter. These seniors will be supported by Edenal, Planks, and the software team Zephyyrr, Zoton2 and Oromit

At all times there will be 2 people manning the production area. The goal is that during the daytime there will always be additional knowledgeable people around to help. During the night time, of which there will be one or two “antisocial shifts” each, only straightforward single player runs will be scheduled to keep stress to a minimum!

When we need senior tech, we’ll be looking to past returning tech volunteers who want to continue to support ESA with their time. For this event, we may want one more. Please email Planks directly if this would interest you.

What you’ll be doing

As a volunteer, you’ll be working with one of these senior techs for six to eight scheduled hours a day. In this time you’ll learn in detail how to operate our stream overlay software, audio mixer, and how to connect consoles. In addition, we would ask you book your stay to cover setup and teardown days.

We need people committed to tech as a passion, and for it to be your main focus at the event. Unfortunately it’s no longer viable for us to recruit part-time help due to the high amount of training that goes into learning our setup. In return for the full contribution of your time we will cover your ticket. If you just want to ‘have a go’ please make yourself known to Planks at the event and we’ll give you a try-out shift.

For a full rundown in more detail on our workflow, the YouTube intro videos are still the best place to go. Nothing significant in our setup has changed since these were published https://goo.gl/yE5rg5

Our offer to you

In return for helping, we are offering comp entry and some sort of daily catering while on shift. The exact nature isn’t confirmed, it will depend on budget and availability closer to the time.

We will show preference to those who are able to stay the full day on Sunday 24th, leaving on the 25th. This is to assist with packing away the streaming area.

Stream Station

In addition and separate to the main stream area, we want one person to coordinate a runner streaming station as their dedicated role.

The responsibilities of this job will be
> Building and configuring a computer from existing ESA kit with OBS and a capture card ready for streamers to stream to their own channel
> Recruiting streamers through ESA media channels in order to fill a stream schedule for approx 12 hours a day during event days (noon to midnight, or similar)
> Being the single point of contact for streamers using the area during the event, resolving any scheduling or technical issues that arise

Please email Planks directly if this would interest you.
